# Serve Edge Compute Functions from your Custom Domain

# Custom Domains Now Available for Edge Compute Functions

Custom domains are available for Telnyx [Edge Compute Functions](https://telnyx.com/products/functions), giving you full control over the certificate chain, CA, and rotation schedule instead of relying on a platform-managed certificate.

## What's New

* **Custom domain support:** Add `[[domains]]` blocks to `telnyx.toml` and serve functions from your own hostname instead of the default `*.telnyxcompute.com` URL.
* **Bring your own TLS certificate:** Upload your own PEM-encoded certificate and private key. Certificates are stored encrypted with AES-GCM.
* **One-time DNS verification:** Prove domain ownership with a TXT record at `_telnyx-verification.<domain>`. No re-verification needed when you update or replace certificates.
* **Multiple domains per function:** Point several domains at the same function. The limit is 25 custom domains per organization with no per-function restriction.
* **Simultaneous routing:** The custom domain and the default `*.telnyxcompute.com` URL both serve traffic at the same time. If a certificate expires, the default URL keeps working while you rotate the cert.
* **TLS 1.2 and 1.3 supported.** HTTP/2 supported. HTTP/3 not available.
* **No certificate restrictions beyond PEM format.** No size limit, no minimum key size, no certificate type restriction, no chain length limit. The certificate must not be expired and the SAN or CN must match the domain.
* **Verification has no timeout.** Add the TXT record anytime and retry as needed. The token does not expire.

## Why It Matters

Customers can now serve Edge Compute Functions under their own domain, so end users interact with a familiar URL instead of a platform-managed endpoint. This keeps branding consistent for customer-facing applications and gives teams full control over their certificate chain, CA, and rotation schedule without relying on a platform-managed certificate.

* **ACME auto-provisioned certificates** to handle issuance and renewal automatically for teams who want a managed option
* **Wildcard domain support** for covering multiple subdomains with a single entry
* **Temporary disable** without deleting and recreating the domain

## Getting Started

1. Update to `telnyx-edge` v0.5.0 or later.
2. Add a `[[domains]]` block to your `telnyx.toml` with your hostname.
3. Run `telnyx-edge domains add api.acme.com <function_id>` to generate a DNS TXT record. For example: `telnyx-edge domains add api.acme.com 0160246a-7452-47dc-bf54-84dabc3dd143`
4. Add the TXT record to your DNS provider at `_telnyx-verification.<domain>` with the value `telnyx-verify=<hex token>`.
5. Run `telnyx-edge domains verify api.acme.com` to complete one-time verification.
6. Run `telnyx-edge domains cert upload api.acme.com --cert cert.pem --key key.pem` with your PEM certificate and private key.
7. Deploy your function. Both your custom domain and the default `*.telnyxcompute.com` URL will serve traffic.
