# Observability Now Available for Telnyx Edge Compute

### 22, Sep 2026

Edge Compute functions now have full observability from ship to live production: what your code logs, how each request performs, and why a deployment failed. Runtime and invocation logs with live tailing, OTLP log export to your existing observability stack, metrics, deployment history, and health checks are available through the CLI and REST API.

### What's new

* **Logs:** Runtime stdout/stderr and per-request invocation records via `telnyx-edge logs <function>`, including `console.log` output and errors.
* **Live tailing:** `telnyx-edge logs <function> --tail` streams new lines over a WebSocket as the platform receives them, until Ctrl-C, with `--type` filtering runtime or invocation lines.
* **Metrics:** Request counts, HTTP 2xx/4xx/5xx rates, p50/p95/p99 latency, plus CPU and memory via `telnyx-edge metrics <function>`.
* **Deployments:** Ship status, per-stage failure classification, and failure reasons via `telnyx-edge deployments <function>` and `telnyx-edge ship status <function>`.
* **Health checks:** Application-level `/health` route guidance.
* **REST API:** Function logs, metric aggregates, revisions, ship inspection, and log export configuration (get/set/delete) under `/v2/compute/funcs/{id}`.
* **Log export:** Push logs to an external HTTPS endpoint as they happen in OTLP format. Honeycomb, Datadog, Grafana, and your own OpenTelemetry Collector all work. Configure per function with `telnyx-edge log-export set`.

### Why it matters

Running production workloads means debugging failures, tracking performance, and understanding deployment outcomes. Now you can read logs, query metrics, tail a function live while you reproduce an issue, and inspect deployments with per-stage failure classification. Log export and the REST API pipe Edge Compute logs into the dashboards your team already runs over standard OTLP, whatever you use, no lock-in.

### Example use cases

* Debug a failing function with `telnyx-edge logs my-api --since 1h --last 100`, or watch live with `--tail`.
* Track p99 latency and error rates with `telnyx-edge metrics my-api`.
* Investigate a failed deployment with `telnyx-edge ship status my-api --logs`.
* Stream function logs into Honeycomb, Datadog, or Grafana with `telnyx-edge log-export set`.

### Getting started

1. Install or update to the latest CLI release (currently v0.5.3) by downloading the binary for your platform from the [releases page](https://github.com/team-telnyx/edge-compute/releases). Installation steps: [CLI reference](https://developers.telnyx.com/docs/edge-compute/reference/cli#installation).
2. Pull logs with `telnyx-edge logs <function>`, tail live with `--tail`, or check metrics with `telnyx-edge metrics <function>`.
3. Review deployments with `telnyx-edge deployments <function>`.
4. Stream logs into your stack: `telnyx-edge log-export set <function> --endpoint <url> --header <name>=<value>`.
