Channel Partners 2019 Conference

Original Announcement - Powering the Service Provider Evolution at Channel Partners 2019 The Telnyx team will be on the scene at the 2019 Channel Partners Conference & Expo in Las Vegas. Come visit us at booth 1556 from April 10 to 12.

The role of service providers is evolving. They’re no longer focused solely on vendor relations and IT support.

With customers now requiring streamlined user experiences with self-service options, service providers are building communications platforms that enable them to order services on the fly, pull reports in real time and dynamically scale their infrastructures.

We’ll be talking to CP19 attendees about how Telnyx can help them move beyond simply managing services to become the provider. We look forward to showing them how Telnyx is helping build software-based solutions that automate what have traditionally been manual processes: porting, purchasing and provisioning phone numbers, to name a few.

If you’re attending CP19, stop by booth 1556 to learn how Telnyx delivers a solid foundation on which you can build your customer communications, giving you the mission-critical infrastructure as a service you need to power your platform.

Find Telnyx In The Channel Partners Expo Hall The Telnyx team will be in the Channel Partners Expo Hall (booth 1556) to demonstrate how service providers and channel partners can take control of their communications to meet the changing needs of their customers.

“The service provider and channel partner roles are evolving,” said Ian Reither, COO of Telnyx.

"Beyond a continued focus on vendor relations and IT support, they’re also building their own communications platforms to streamline customer experiences and automate some of their more tedious processes like number porting and provisioning.”

With its own private global network and powerful Mission Control Portal, Telnyx gives service providers and channel partners the critical infrastructure as a service they need to support their next-gen communications platforms.

“The future of communications is real-time and dynamic,” said Reither. “We make it easy to pass on those next-gen capabilities to customers for faster results and more self-service options. We can’t wait to show Channel Partners attendees how Telnyx is powering the service provider and channel partner evolutions by delivering a solid foundation on which they can build their customer communications.”

Telnyx will be at Channel Partners from April 10-12. Stop by booth 1556 for a look into the future of communications, or schedule time to meet with the team.

SpeechTEK 2019 Conference

Original Announcement - Telnyx Sponsors SpeechTEK 2019 Telnyx, the world’s only self-service, full-stack communications platform, is a Gold Sponsor of SpeechTEK 2019, the world’s leading speech technology and AI conference, taking place April 29-May 1 at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. Hotel.

The Telnyx team will be at the Customer Solutions Expo (booth 501) throughout the week to demonstrate how they are helping customers build web-centric, AI-ready communications.

“The Telnyx network was built for the future of communications, so SpeechTEK is a great opportunity for us to show what we can do,” said David Casem, co-founder and CEO of Telnyx.

“This will be our first time at the conference, and we’re excited to talk to everyone about how the Telnyx platform is helping customers build next-gen communications with advanced voice and messaging features right in their own applications.”

Panel Discussion at SpeechTEK Casem will be joining a panel discussion at SpeechTEK titled “Problem Solving in the Age of Microservices.” The panel will discuss the possible solutions to problems in a multi-vendor/microservices environment.

“Today’s businesses often rely on multiple vendors for day-to-day functionality, including communications,” said Casem.

“But relying on microservices from multiple vendors can complicate things. If your resources are spread thin and you can’t properly manage all your vendors, it’s easy for things to slip through the cracks, resulting in performance issues or errors going unnoticed. Not everyone can rely on a single vendor for all their needs, so we want to share some tips for being successful in a multi-vendor environment.”

The panel discussion will be held Tuesday, April 30, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

ElixerConf 2018 Conference

Original Announcement - Telnyx heads to ElixirConf 2018 The Telynx team is excited to head to ElixirConf, set to kick off on the 4th of September until the 7th. Not sure what ElixirConf is? Well, it’s the premier conference for the Elixir community where Elixir developers from around the world gather for four days.

The main purpose of the conference is to advance the Elixir programming language and the communities and companies surrounding it. Some of the greatest minds in the space come together to establish relationships for work, collaboration and entrepreneurship.

Putting things in perspective, last year ElixirConf had over 60 speakers and trainers, 650 attendees, and 12 sponsors. The exciting part? ElixirConf 2018 is expected to be bigger and better than ever, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a sponsor for this year’s event.

ElixerConf 2018 Notes

Over the course of the four days, ElixirConf is hosting two days of training, September 4-5, and two days of speakers, September 6-7, in a multi-track conference. To give you a taste of what’s to come at the event, we’ve summarized our speakers and their courses. Take a look!

Renan Ranelli - Understanding Elixir's (Re)compilation Renan will be running an intermediate/advanced course on Elixir’s compilation. Elixir's code-generation capabilities require a sophisticated compiler with complex dependency tracking. Given such complexity, it is often unclear why sometimes changing a single line in a single file triggers the recompilation of 100 other files - a core aspect of which this talk aims to clarify.

The majority of the content presented in this talk was "discovered" while struggling with recompilations of 500+ files in a 2000+ .beam file Phoenix app. Renan learned things the hard way, so you don’t have to!

The talk will be a deep dive into what happens when you type "mix compile", why and when modules need to be recompiled and how compilation behavior interacts with umbrella apps. You’ll learn how to "debug" recompilation problems, which tools to use and how to avoid common pitfalls.

Guilherme de Maio - Down the Memory Lane: a Tale of Memory Leaks Guilherme is leading a course on the history of memory leaks and how he’s experienced their occurrence in relation to Elixir apps. The talk outlines why leaks happen and what to do when they occur.

Embedded content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZO7LFELhys

This will include how the Erlang runtime is different from other platforms and how you can pinpoint what’s causing the leak itself.

Oh, and if you're going to be at the conference, make sure to say hello! We're giving out some great prizes!

ClueCon 2017 Conference

Telnyx is Sponsoring this Year’s ClueCon (Again!) It’s that time of the year folks – ClueCon is coming back to Chicago in August, and we’re very excited to be sponsoring this event once again!

A conference for developers by developers, ClueCon is held every summer by the FreeSWITCH open-source project.

Just like the Telnyx crew, this awesome group of people enjoys what they do in VoIP, open-source software, WebRTC and IoT. If that’s something you’re interested in, you might want to read more about the conference. Already registered?

Speaking Engagements Our CEO David Casem and Senior Network Engineer Jason Craft will be discussing the strategy & technical mechanics of building a global VoIP network – they’ll basically be divulging some secrets about what differentiates Telnyx from other VoIP providers, so make sure you come with all ears wide open!

David Kovsky, our senior software engineer will be up on stage for a conversation around building a microservices architecture from scratch.

Here’s a quick summary: Conventional wisdom says the best way to build a microservices architecture is to start with a monolith and only break it into microservices when you understand the domain well enough to get the boundaries right.

At Telnyx, we knew from the start that we couldn’t satisfy all the requirements of running a phone company, with self-service as a key differentiator, within a monolith. Furthermore, we knew the sooner we started on the key infrastructure components of a microservice architecture, the better off we’d be.

In this talk, we’ll explore the key decisions we’ve made in order to make this work, the benefits we’ve enjoyed, and how our system continues to evolve to meet changing needs and respond to learning experiences.

FreeSWITCH Performance Tuning for Docker Containers

Telnyx's very own Rogelio Perez was this week's ClueCon Weekly guest, and he shared some major FreeSWITCH insights.

Rogelio - Telnyx Voice Engineer As voice engineer for Telnyx, Rogelio has over 15 years of experience in the telecommunications engineering field, with a special focus in Networking and VoIP. For his presentation, he reviewed how to fine tune a system where FreeSWITCH is running inside a Docker container for high performance. If you missed the live show, check out the recording below:

Enterprise Connect 2017 Conference

Enterprise Connect 2017 Highlights Enterprise Connect wrapped up on Wednesday, and boy was that event jam packed! From the amazing exhibitors in the exhibit hall of the beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando to the many insightful sessions from the who’s who of UC and telecommunications, EC17 was the premier conference to attend. Here are some highlights:

Bringing Awareness To SIP Trunking The Telnyx crew was there to bring awareness to our amazing SIP trunking solutions as they gave out some pretty cool giveaways.

If you weren't there or were not able to visit our booth (shame on you!), you missed out on some shirts, stickers and power chargers. We also gave out a Parrot drone to a lucky grand prize winner.

Beyond the swag, our growth team was on standby, happily answering any questions from the people who stopped by. The most asked question by people visiting the booth? "How do you Be Your Own Carrier?"

Of course, some of the team members snuck out to listen in on some of the keynotes and panel discussions. A highlight included Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson trying to demo their API... except the WiFi wasn't cooperating, so they had to awkwardly hand him an ethernet cable. He, at least, was a great sport about the situation.

Panelists at the session "How Your SIP Trunk Procurement Choices are Changing" included VPs from AT&T, Level 3, Tata Communications and Verizon.

Moderator Anthony Mangino of TechCaliber Consulting mentioned that "you need to understand your traffic and build a cost model to identify which SIP solution is most cost-effective" when it comes to choosing the right provider, and we couldn't agree more.

The panelists discussed how enterprises should look into choosing the right contract for their needs. Brian Harrington from Tata Communications went as far as to say that the industry is moving to packaged, flat rate pricing.

We here at Telnyx - of course - were confused that the discussion strictly revolved around contract pricing when there are better choices out in the market. With a la carte pricing, Telnyx believes that you should only pay for what you use without the shackles of contracts and long-term agreements, so the discussion around finding the right contract for your needs was sort of befuddling.

At the session on "Practical Advice for Navigating SIP Trunking," moderator Melissa Swartz of Swartz Consulting and her esteemed panelists had some... practical advice for attendees when it comes to choosing the right SIP trunk provider. Her four top factors to consider were: Pricing, SIP Refer, Portal Capabilities & Rerouting & Failover

Can we talk about porting? Because according to Swartz, moving numbers from one provider to another is potentially "the single biggest challenge for a lot of carriers." Her panelists agreed that this is a sticking point not only to carriers but especially to the enterprises concerned with the process. Would you agree?

Just like the panel discussion on the changing environment of SIP trunk procurement, there was a healthy conversation around pricing and contract agreements as well. Swartz advised everyone to "watch those contracts!" and to ensure that users were fully aware of what they are paying for.

Lastly, we want to congratulate Cisco for winning the Best of Enterprise Connect 2017 for their ingenious Spark Board - a cloud and touch-based team collaboration device. Got #FOMO for EC17? Make sure to register for next year's event, which will be hosted again by the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida from March 12-15. See you there!

Call Center Week 2017

Here is our Call Center Week Winter Recap! Last week, Telnyx attended Call Center Week (CCW) Winter in the Big Easy - New Orleans, Louisiana.

This was our first time attending CCW, and it was an awesome experience! We know that at the heart of quality customer service is quality communications, and CCW was an opportunity for us to further explore how companies can achieve great customer service and how we as a SIP Trunk Provider can help facilitate high-fidelity communication.

We had the pleasure of listening to keynote speakers such as Jim Oliver from Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center and Serena Smith from FIS Global Retail Payment about the importance of customer service and how technology and transformation play an important role in delivering that quality customer experience.

There are many pieces that come together to make up the customer service team, and they play a crucial role in not only retaining customers but also maintaining one’s brand. There’s no substitute for good people and leaders, but there are also a number of ways you can leverage technology to help aid great service.

We also benefitted from the various panel discussions touching on the significance of company culture, artificial intelligence (AI) and much more.

In addition to the platforms and software that can expedite some of your processes and reduce the potential for error, there is the company culture. At the end of the day, you want to deliver a human experience, not a robotic one.

AI can be leveraged to help collect information and add value to work being done by human agents, but it cannot replace the need for great culture. When a customer reaches out looking for support or inquiring about services, they want to be treated with respect and have their needs addressed with a sense of urgency.

What better way to ensure that your call center reps are giving off the image you desire then to create a working environment they enjoy being a part of.

Eventually, the week came to an end and we had to say goodbye to Call Center Week Winter and NOLA. It was sad to leave, but we did get to enjoy a fun-filled week with great people and great companies that reminded us of the importance of what Telnyx does and communications across all industries.

ClueCon is a developer conference that was designed to get everyone interested in technologically driven communication in one place to share ideas, learn from each other, and build the tools needed to succeed in reaching their goals. "I'm excited to have Telnyx involved in ClueCon 2016, I'm looking forward to our greatest year yet!" said Brian West with FreeSWITCH Solutions.

At Telnyx, we believe an open network is the only acceptable platform for high-grade VoIP which is why we have developed our Mission Control Platform to offer real-time communications on a global scale via a self-service portal.

We’re excited to hit the ground running as a ClueCon sponsor, and share how we’re building the next generation phone company with you. Join our engineers as they present in various sessions throughout the conference. For more information on the topics we will be presenting and how to register please see below.

Technical Mechanics Strategy This presentation will explore how Telnyx has created a purpose-built network for offering voice services to customers over the Internet and those with the ability to form direct connections to the Telnyx backbone.

The discussion will include details on building a global backbone, using a cloud agnostic model to build data centers and adding automation and SDN elements to deliver a quality experience for consumers of the Telnyx product.

Data Pipelines & Fraud Detection w/ Machine Learning As access to the internet and the popularity of VoIP simultaneously increase worldwide, telecom providers must adopt efficient data-handling tactics to enable real-time monitoring of traffic on their networks.

In this presentation, we will discuss how Telnyx leverages technologies such as Spark, Cassandra, Kafka and Go to create a scalable data pipeline, which is then leveraged for dynamic fraud detection. Topics to be covered include but are not limited to cloud agnostic data pipelines, fraud detection, machine learning and time-series based alerting/monitoring.

Enabling Concurrent Monitoring Monitoring and instrumenting FreeSwitch has helped Telnyx provide higher quality to our customers.

When we moved our system regionally and globally we needed a solution that would allow Telnyx and customers to manage concurrency in our distributed network. This presentation will explore how Telnyx monitors and manages customer calls locally, regionally and globally and the challenges that arise from this.

Designing and Implementing Micro-Services In modern technology stacks today, failure is expected, but customer outages are not. How do you build a platform that can handle failure gracefully and with minimal interruption to the user? By using technologies that allow for a scalable, immutable, and highly available VoIP infrastructure.

This presentation will give an overview of micro-services and docker technology implemented within the Telnyx platform.
