Electd scales political outreach from a standing start to 100,000 texts a month

When a political campaign pivots, it pivots overnight. A debate ends, a news cycle breaks, a filing deadline looms, and a candidate suddenly needs a message in front of tens of thousands of voters before the moment passes.

"During a campaign's big push, one of the things that we are seeing is the need to send anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 text messages in a very short period of time," said Daniel Kuether, co-founder and CEO of Electd, an all-in-one political organizing platform that brings voter data, email, texting, calling, canvassing, and AI-powered strategy together for down-ballot candidates, coordinated campaigns, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations.

That pace puts real pressure on the infrastructure underneath. "That puts a lot of constraint on us and our providers, but we know that when we need to launch that out timely and make sure that it consistently runs, we always get that from Telnyx," Kuether said.

Building on Telnyx from day one

Electd has run on Telnyx since the day it launched. "When we launched the company, we first went to Telnyx immediately, just because of the ease of the integration and the API," Kuether said. The team built its 10DLC SMS and MMS texting directly into the platform through the Telnyx API, and layered voice calling on the same foundation.

Starting on the right infrastructure meant Electd could make promises to campaigns that a young company usually cannot. "It has allowed us to really scale our business and take on more customers and clients, because we've been able to rely solidly on that integration and knowing that it's going to run well," Kuether said. "We're not going to run into problems, and we're able to promise our customers with that consideration of Telnyx in the background."

From a few thousand messages to six figures

The platform's growth shows up in raw volume. Electd's customers now send "anywhere from a few thousand text messages out to even up towards 100,000 text messages in a month," Kuether said, "and running it very smoothly and consistently."

Campaign season compresses that volume into narrow windows, and compliance never takes a break. Kuether pointed to the guardrails built into the Telnyx platform as part of what keeps those windows on schedule. "There's a lot of great safety precautions built into the system already, that if something does get flagged, we can catch it right away and we can make adjustments," he said. "During the campaign season, timeliness and efficiency are so important, and our campaigns are constantly pivoting, which means that our providers need to be able to move along at that speed too. And that's what we've been getting."

Delivery rates campaigns can take to their candidates

For a texting platform, the number that matters most is the one at the end of the pipe. "We're seeing well over 90% delivery rates on our messaging, which has been great, and sits really well within industry standards," Kuether said. "When we bring that up to customers, they're usually very overjoyed by hearing those numbers. Having that kind of reliability and just seeing that high delivery rate constantly, without a lot of extra work from us, is just awesome."

Those results underpin Electd's national ambitions. "When we are thinking about scaling nationally and even beyond, a lot of it is about being able to move quickly. Speed is so important in this industry and just becoming even more important. And also reliability," Kuether said. "As we continue to build, having a partner that moves at our same speed is essential."

An obvious choice for API-first teams

Kuether's case for Telnyx comes down to the same qualities that shaped Electd's own product. "I would definitely recommend Telnyx because of the consistency that we have seen with our business," he said. "We've been able to build into the integration really easily, build it simultaneously into our platform, and very seamlessly. And then we've also just been able to rely on it. We know that we can trust, when we are doing text messages or when we're doing voice calling, that it's going to work and that we can scale it very quickly."

His verdict for teams weighing their options is direct. "If somebody else is looking for that reliability and that ease of use, I think it's an obvious choice when it comes to API integrations in these types of services," he said.
