Caller Identity and Enhanced Caller Name Now Available in Telnyx Number Lookup

21, Oct 2026

Telnyx Number Lookup now returns the name and postal address behind a phone number with Caller Identity, and a caller name with broader coverage than standard CNAM with Enhanced Caller Name. Both are opt-in with the type parameter on the same Number Lookup request, so existing lookups are unchanged.

What's new

  • Caller Identity: Returns the name and postal address of the number's owner, with a confidence score from 50 to 90. Request it with type=caller-identity. Available for US numbers, and for Canadian numbers on accounts enabled for Canadian data.
  • Enhanced Caller Name: Returns a caller name with broader coverage than standard CNAM for US numbers. Request it with type=enhanced-caller-name.
  • Any combination in one request: Repeat the type parameter to combine carrier, caller-name, enhanced-caller-name, and caller-identity in a single call.
  • Per-data-set pricing: Caller Identity is $0.044 per lookup and Enhanced Caller Name is $0.02 per lookup.

Why it matters

  • Enhanced Caller Name returns a name for more US numbers than standard CNAM, using the same request you already send.
  • Caller Identity ties a number to a person and an address, and the confidence score shows how strong the link is. A score of 70 or above is high confidence, 60 is moderate, and 50 is limited, so you can set your own threshold for each use case.
  • Both data sets sit behind the same endpoint and API key as carrier and portability lookups, so there is no separate identity vendor to integrate, bill, or monitor.
  • Both are opt-in per request, so existing Number Lookup integrations keep working without changes.

Example use cases

  • Fraud and risk teams compare the name on an application with the name returned for the applicant's phone number before approving an account.
  • Contact centers identify unknown inbound numbers and show the caller's name before an agent picks up.
  • Voice AI agents look up the inbound number at the start of a call and greet known callers by name.

Getting started

  1. Send a GET request to /v2/number_lookup/{phone_number} with type=caller-identity and your Telnyx API key.
  2. Read caller_identity.name, caller_identity.address, and caller_identity.confidence_score in the response.
  3. Add type=enhanced-caller-name to the same request to include Enhanced Caller Name for US numbers, and read enhanced_caller_name in the response.
  4. Choose a confidence score threshold that fits your use case before you act on a Caller Identity result.
curl -X GET "https://api.telnyx.com/v2/number_lookup/+18005550199?type=caller-identity&type=enhanced-caller-name" \
