Private PGW: APN-Based IP Assignment Update + Get SIM Card API Enhancement

11, Feb 2026

Telnyx is introducing improvements to IP address assignment and session-level visibility within Private PGWs to support more granular traffic control and device management.

What’s New

Starting February 12th, 2026, Telnyx is updating how IP addresses are assigned within Private Packet Gateways (Pvt PGWs) based on APN selection. This update introduces a clear separation between static and dynamic IP traffic at the APN level, enabling enhanced traffic control, device management, and operational visibility.

What’s Changing

IP address assignment will now depend on the APN used by the device: data.net APN → Static IP address assignment data00.telnyx APN → Dynamic IP address assignment

This separation supports diverse device behaviors and use cases by distinguishing traffic that requires persistent network identity from traffic that does not.

What This Means for You

  • If you use dynamic IP addresses: No action is required. Your deployment will continue operating as normal using the data00.telnyx APN.
  • If you use static IP addresses: Static IP functionality will be available via the data.net APN once the rollout is complete.

If a device is currently using a static IP on data00.telnyx, the active data session will automatically reconnect and receive a dynamic IP address as part of the migration.

After the rollout has completed for your Private PGW, devices must be configured with the data.net APN to continue using the static IP assigned to the SIM.

Static IP connections provide:

  • Consistent IP addressing across sessions
  • Simplified firewall and remote access configuration
  • Improved policy enforcement and device management
  • Support for throttling and traffic shaping (soon to be available, only on static IP connections)

Improved Visibility via Get SIM Card API

To support this update and improve visibility into device connectivity, the Get SIM Card API has been enhanced. For all active device-initiated data sessions, the API now returns:

  • The APN in use
  • The assigned IP address

This makes it easier to confirm whether a session is using static or dynamic IP addressing and improves troubleshooting and traffic management workflows.

Note: IMS and SIM services are excluded from this response.
The new API version is fully backward compatible.
