Configure maximum AI assistant duration for calls

9, Dec 2025

You can now configure a maximum duration for your AI assistant's participation in each call directly from the calling tab in the AI Assistant Builder. This setting lets you precisely control how long the assistant remains active before disengaging. The limit only affects time when the assistant is actively engaged, ensuring human intervention or other workflows are not impacted.

What’s new

  • Maximum assistant duration setting: Specify a duration (in seconds) for AI assistant engagement per call.
  • Automated cutoff: The assistant stops automatically once the configured duration is reached.
  • Context-aware application: The timer only counts while the AI assistant is active; time spent on hold or with a human agent is excluded.

Why it matters

  • Enhances operational control over AI-to-human handoffs.
  • Ensures compliance with policy, workflow, or billing constraints.
  • Reduces the risk of unintended assistant over-engagement on calls.

Example use cases

  • Limit AI assistant involvement on sensitive calls to enforce regulatory or company policy.
  • Control support call workflows to encourage timely escalation to human agents.
  • Cap AI agent duration to manage costs in high-volume environments.
