VegaNext Built a Turnkey VoIP and AI Stack on Telnyx

"We were looking for a VoIP trunk provider. We ended up finding a VoIP technology provider," said Pervez Delawalla, CEO of VegaNext.

The distinction carries weight at a company where voice is one piece of a much bigger promise. VegaNext, based in El Segundo, California, delivers enterprise-grade technology to small and midsize businesses as a turnkey package. "We are a cybersecurity company first," Delawalla said. "We provide outsourced IT managed services along with application and AI agentic development." Voice runs through all of it, from the VoIP switch VegaNext operates as a service to the calling and texting it builds into custom client applications.

That breadth left no patience for carrier friction. Provisioning a number or configuring a trunk through a legacy carrier meant days of back and forth, so the search came with firm criteria. "We needed an infrastructure partner that offered deep programmatic control over voice routing," Delawalla said. "As a managed IT and cybersecurity provider, we can't afford to compromise on reliability."

A carrier that owns its network

Telnyx met both requirements when VegaNext brought its VoIP switch onto Elastic SIP Trunking. "Telnyx stood out because they actually own their network, which means lower latency and higher call quality," Delawalla said. "The API-first approach gave us the exact level of customization we needed to build our services without the typical carrier red tape."

The platform design mattered too. "It played well because it's a newer design, with ease of turn-up and ease of API integrations," he said. Call quality has held up in production. "We bring in the trunk and plug it into our phone switch, and the voice quality is really good."

Up and running in days, provisioning in minutes

Onboarding set the tone, with clear communication from the contractual stage through turn-up and early hands-on time in the Mission Control Portal. "It was explained to us, in plain English, exactly what we should be expecting," Delawalla recalled. "Once we got into it and started playing around with the portal, within a couple of days we were completely up and running."

The portal and API documentation became the engine of daily operations. "The Mission Control Portal and the comprehensive API documentation allowed our engineering team to integrate everything directly into our existing enterprise networking environments, including our cloud PBX deployments," he said. "Historically, provisioning numbers or configuring SIP trunks had taken days of back and forth with a legacy carrier. With Telnyx, that was done in minutes."

The pattern holds for numbering. VegaNext manages phone numbers for clients across the country. "When we need a phone number provisioned from different states, we're able to do it fairly quickly," Delawalla said. Number porting, often a friction point with traditional carriers, has been "fairly simple as well," and VegaNext now provisions numbers internationally through Telnyx, a process Delawalla called easy to work with.

AI receptionists for front desks that can't keep up

Reliable voice was the entry point, but the more ambitious build is happening on top of it. VegaNext is using Voice AI to develop an AI receptionist platform for its clients, running on the same infrastructure that carries its calls.

The use cases are concrete. "You have home healthcare companies who need calls answered 24/7, or a small doctor's office that requires a dedicated receptionist for booking or changing appointments," Delawalla said. "The AI can handle those mundane tasks and free up the human hours to handle other tasks."

For a medical practice, the AI receptionist connects to the practice management system to handle scheduling, cancellations, and changes. For a restaurant, it takes and modifies reservations without pulling anyone off the floor during a dinner rush. "It's making our clients' companies more efficient," Delawalla said. "They're able to make reservations automatically or modify reservations in a timely manner without taking up a hostess's time or a front desk at the doctor's office."

The payoff runs both ways. Offering AI keeps VegaNext competitive in a market where every IT provider is trying to figure out how to deliver it. "It's making our business more relevant in this AI world," he said.

Full control from a single pane of glass

Consolidating voice, numbering, and AI with one provider has also changed VegaNext's economics. "Having a single pane of glass has given us the capability to instantly scale our voice channels and manage our entire numbering inventory," Delawalla said. "It's reduced our overall operational overhead while giving us the reliability we were looking for, which was somewhat missing in our previous providers."

His recommendation to other enterprises comes back to ownership. "For any enterprise or managed service provider that requires control over their communications stack, Telnyx, to me, is completely unmatched," he said. "Owning your own network means superior quality and reliability, and combined with the developer tools and transparent pricing models, it makes Telnyx simply one of the best providers out there to work with. The platform is very intuitive and easy to work with."
